Did you know there may be a genetic reason you love to travel? Without getting too "sciencey," some people have the so-called "wanderlust gene," called  DRD4-7R, a variant of the DRD4 gene.  This variant has been hypothesized to be associated with risk-taking, adventure, and the desire for travel or exploration. It has to do with how the brain processes dopamine, a  neurotransmitter that triggers happy/excited feelings. The theory is that individuals who possess the 7R allele may be more likely to exhibit traits that would make them more inclined to be adventurous and to seek out travel experiences. However, it is important to note that human behavior is complex and is influenced by a multitude of genetic and environmental factors.

No single gene can completely explain a behavior as multifaceted as wanderlust. However, if you tend to be more adventurous, like to take risks or are restless (did anyone ever say you have "ants in your pants?"),  you may have the "wanderlust gene." Now that you know where this formerly unexplained urge to travel is coming from, let me know how I can help get you on your next big adventure!
