Five Carnival Brands to Participate in "On Deck for the Cure"

Five Carnival Corp. brands will now participate in "On Deck for the Cure," a fundraising initiative that benefits the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, an organization that raises money for breast cancer research.

Jack Anderson, Carnival Corp.'s vice president of marketing, made the announcement at last week's Cruise 3Sixty conference, and said the program will be modeled on one launched by Holland America Line ships last year.

HAL raised $400,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure last year, exceeding its original goal of $250,000, through guest participation in on-deck fundraisers. Richard Meadows, executive vice president of marketing and sales for HAL, presented representatives from Komen for the Cure with the check for $400,000 March 30.

Carnival Cruise Lines, Seabourn Cruise Line, Costa Cruises and Princess Cruises have joined forces with HAL with a common goal to raise $1 million for breast cancer research.

The On Deck for the Cure fundraising program will be modeled after the launch program, which started aboard Holland America cruises where guests can make a donation of $15 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and participate in a 5-kilometer walk around the deck.

Carnival, Costa and Princess will host 5K walks, with varying donations to participate, as well as concurrent events. Seabourn, which doesn't have the deck space to offer a 5k walk, will instead conduct a "Quiz for the Cure" trivia contest.
