Theme Cruises

If you've been on a cruise, you know it's anything but ordinary. Each cruise line has something special to offer, visiting exciting ports of call while providing phenomenal service, accommodations, dining and a wide variety of activities both on and off the ship. If you are looking for something more, a wonderful alternative to these “ordinary cruises” is a theme cruise.

A theme cruise provides the opportunity for a group of people to indulge in a particular hobby or interest. Programs might include guest speakers, classes, special performances and theme related shore excursions. The best part about a theme cruise is your participation is usually included in the all inclusive fee (aside from extra packages and tours).

Cruise lines often organize theme cruises with a variety of them offered throughout the year. Some examples include: a golf cruise with Crystal Cruises in August, complete with arrangements to play at the famous St. Andrews in Scotland as well as other golf courses in Ireland. There will be lectures, parties and golf clinics. Two time US Open champion Billy Casper will be in attendance. MSC Cruises offers baseball themed cruises with hall of fame players on board.Carnival offers poker cruises sponsored with Ocean Players Club. Next month’s Carnival Poker Cruise gives participants the chance to win a seat at the 2007 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas! Other cruise lines offer culinary themes with cooking classes and wine tastings. Also, for those of you in the medical, nursing and legal/medical fields, there are Continuing Medical Education cruises (Cruise Planners is the exclusive selling agent for International Conferences).

Can’t find a cruise with a theme that interests you? That’s ok, you can organize your own!  This list is truly infinite: dance cruise (we can arrange for your dance school to perform on the ship), Red Hat Society, emergency/EMT/911 cruise, scrap booking, self-improvement, yoga, theater at sea, or a literary theme.  I am planning a photography cruise in the near future, complete with a professional photographer and private photo tours while in port. Next year I have a Martini themed cruise sailing to the Caribbean on Valentines Day!

Theme cruises provide the opportunity to enjoy a favorite hobby, learn new skills or just increase your knowledge. As cruising becomes a mainstream vacation option, voyages with themes, ranging from hobbies to lifestyles, can personalize your experience and ensure a fabulous time.
