Carnival Splendor will be the second Carnival ship deployed in Europe next year, joining the Carnival Freedom which will operate a program of 12-day Mediterranean cruises May-October 2008.
“Consumers are discovering that cruising is the best way to see Europe as it provides the opportunity to experience and explore multiple destinations while enjoying the comfort and convenience of a modern ‘floating resort,’” said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president and CEO. “Carnival Splendor represents a new class of ‘Fun Ship’ offering a number of innovative facilities and features and, for its inaugural season, we’ve assembled a truly diverse schedule that showcases the fascinating cultures, history and architecture that has made Europe such a sought-after cruise destination,” he added.

A special one-time four-day eastern Caribbean cruise will depart from Fort Lauderdale Nov. 17, 2008.

Surrounding the facility will be 68 exclusive “spa staterooms” – also a first for Carnival. Guests in spa staterooms will have exclusive entry access to the adjacent spa facilities and will receive a wide array of special offerings including priority spa appointments, unlimited use of the thermal suite and thalassotherapy pool, complimentary fitness classes and other amenities.
Its family-friendly facilities will include a water spray park on Lido Deck, along with a two-level 5,500-square-foot children’s play area – the largest in the Carnival fleet, part of the line’s “Camp Carnival” program — along with a teen club featuring a dance floor, DJ and high-tech sound and lighting system, part of Carnival’s “Club O2” program.
A comprehensive golf program with opportunities to play top European and Caribbean courses will also be available.
Of the ship’s 1,503 spacious staterooms, more than 60 percent will offer an ocean view or private balcony – ideal for scenic European cruising. | Five Carnival Brands to Participate in "On Deck for the Cure" Five Carnival Corp. brands will now participate in "On Deck for the Cure," a fundraising initiative that benefits the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, an organization that raises money for breast cancer research.
Jack Anderson, Carnival Corp.'s vice president of marketing, made the announcement at last week's Cruise 3Sixty conference, and said the program will be modeled on one launched by Holland America Line ships last year.
HAL raised $400,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure last year, exceeding its original goal of $250,000, through guest participation in on-deck fundraisers. Richard Meadows, executive vice president of marketing and sales for HAL, presented representatives from Komen for the Cure with the check for $400,000 March 30.
Carnival Cruise Lines, Seabourn Cruise Line, Costa Cruises and Princess Cruises have joined forces with HAL with a common goal to raise $1 million for breast cancer research.
The On Deck for the Cure fundraising program will be modeled after the launch program, which started aboard Holland America cruises where guests can make a donation of $15 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and participate in a 5-kilometer walk around the deck.
Carnival, Costa and Princess will host 5K walks, with varying donations to participate, as well as concurrent events. Seabourn, which doesn't have the deck space to offer a 5k walk, will instead conduct a "Quiz for the Cure" trivia contest. | Theme Cruises If you've been on a cruise, you know it's anything but ordinary. Each cruise line has something special to offer, visiting exciting ports of call while providing phenomenal service, accommodations, dining and a wide variety of activities both on and off the ship. If you are looking for something more, a wonderful alternative to these “ordinary cruises” is a theme cruise.
A theme cruise provides the opportunity for a group of people to indulge in a particular hobby or interest. Programs might include guest speakers, classes, special performances and theme related shore excursions. The best part about a theme cruise is your participation is usually included in the all inclusive fee (aside from extra packages and tours).
Cruise lines often organize theme cruises with a variety of them offered throughout the year. Some examples include: a golf cruise with Crystal Cruises in August, complete with arrangements to play at the famous St. Andrews in Scotland as well as other golf courses in Ireland. There will be lectures, parties and golf clinics. Two time US Open champion Billy Casper will be in attendance. MSC Cruises offers baseball themed cruises with hall of fame players on board.Carnival offers poker cruises sponsored with Ocean Players Club. Next month’s Carnival Poker Cruise gives participants the chance to win a seat at the 2007 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas! Other cruise lines offer culinary themes with cooking classes and wine tastings. Also, for those of you in the medical, nursing and legal/medical fields, there are Continuing Medical Education cruises (Cruise Planners is the exclusive selling agent for International Conferences).
Can’t find a cruise with a theme that interests you? That’s ok, you can organize your own! This list is truly infinite: dance cruise (we can arrange for your dance school to perform on the ship), Red Hat Society, emergency/EMT/911 cruise, scrap booking, self-improvement, yoga, theater at sea, or a literary theme. I am planning a photography cruise in the near future, complete with a professional photographer and private photo tours while in port. Next year I have a Martini themed cruise sailing to the Caribbean on Valentines Day!
Theme cruises provide the opportunity to enjoy a favorite hobby, learn new skills or just increase your knowledge. As cruising becomes a mainstream vacation option, voyages with themes, ranging from hobbies to lifestyles, can personalize your experience and ensure a fabulous time.

The collision left a large gash on the ship's hull.
The barge collided with a river bank before striking the port side of the Fantasy. The cruise line said there were no injuries to guests or crew members, and while there is damage to the Fantasy's hull, the ship remained fully operational and returned to New Orleans' Erato Street Cruise Terminal where passengers on the vessel were debarked.
About 2,000 passengers on its next itinerary had already boarded the ship on Sunday when Carnival said, after an evaluation of the damage, that repairs to the hull would take several days to complete. It cancelled that voyage, a five-day Western Caribbean sailing, and guests were told they could disembark Sunday night or Monday morning.
Carnival said that all guests on the canceled cruise will receive a full refund and a 25% discount off a future three- to five-day cruise. Carnival also provided assistance with air transportation changes. | Carnival Names Two New Ships Carnival has named two new ships, currently on order with Italy's Fincantieri Shipyard. On Disney Cruise Line, children might dress up as pirates and go on treasure hunts. Royal Caribbean offers exclusive programs designed by Fisher Price for their younger sailors. Evening activities include pajama parties and pizza parties. These programs are supervised by trained cruise staff, and your children generally have access to you by pager. On many cruise lines, teenagers have their own areas of the ship. Carnival offers the only Coca-Cola bar at sea for teenagers.
